What is bondage & BDSM

Let’s get the term right in our heads first. The bondage itself is meant to be a narrow term which refers only to restraint, the actual term that we will be exploring in this guide is BDSM. This name was first used in 1991 and means anything a little bit kinky between consenting adults, which depends on your definition of kinky. BDSM is made up of three abbreviations:

  • B/D – Bondage and Discipline. Getting restrained and obeying, or not if you like the sound of the punishment.
  • D/S – Dominance and Submission. Or Dom and Sub, this is powerplay where one partner takes a leading role, the dom; and the other takes a submissive role, the sub. These roles can interchange but not normally between the same play session.
  • S/M – Sadism and Masochism. This is where the Sadist receives sexual gratification from giving pain, and the Masochist gets sexual gratification from receiving pain.

As you can see, the abbreviations all interact with each other, so for example, if one partner likes to get tied up and spanked this would make them, at least for this one play session, a Submissive Masochist that likes bondage, whereas their partner would be a Dominant Sadist that likes to administer discipline.

Some Bondage Toys & BDSM Equipment

  • Bondage Hood & BDSM Masks – Become anonymous. Perfect for those group sessions or to add to the fun with a partner.
  • Restraints – Tie up your sub or restrain them to the bed, door or floor in whatever position you want them in.
  • Clamps – Hold back your partners’ labia for better access to all their sweet spots or add some pinching pain to their nipples.
  • Spanking – One of the more common bondage toys. Whip your sub if they get out of line. Discipline must be given to your sub with a good old spanking.
  • Swings, Machines & Position Enhancers – Take a ride on a good old fashioned sex swing. Machines are perfect for automatic pleasure. Put them into position and let them know the meaning of pleasure.
  • Electro Sex Toys – These toys administer electricity to the applied area for stimulation. Now I know what you may be thinking, “isn’t electricity dangerous?”. Well yes, it is but this method of using electricity is totally safe. Instead of zapping you it gives off more a tingling sensation that feels amazing.

Safety

When having a night of bondage or BDSM play it is vital that you stay safe. Talk about your session before you play and make sure you both have a safe word in case things get a little too much.
