Our sex shop has one of the largest inventories of products available in the UK and our selection of lingerie is the biggest compared to other UK sex shops. With the lingerie selection within our sex shop, we go one step further. Rather than having lingerie only for the bedroom, we have added lingerie that you can wear out on a date, to go clubbing or even just to relax at home.

What is a sex shop?

A sex shop or Adult toys shop as many call it sells products designed for the enhancement of sexual activity in people of any gender or sexual orientation. The largest audience for sex toys are mostly women, although there has been a massive increase in the number of men buying toys and most couples tend to introduce a toy into their sex life. Erotic shops typically sell personal vibrators and dildos, anal toys, masturbation aids, condoms, lubricants and various bondage and BDSM accessories. The rise of the internet has given people the opportunity to order products from an online sex shop discreetly.

History of sex shops

So we know the first sex toy was being used about 28,000 years ago but what about the first shop to actually sell toys? Well, the world’s first sex shop opened back in 1962 in Flensburg, West Germany by the sex industry group Beate Uhse AG. It was founded in 1946 by Beate Uhse-Rotermund who was Germany’s first female stunt pilot. Beate Uhse AG originally began creating and circulating family planning pamphlets and at the beginning of the twenty-first century, they were the sex industry’s most profitable chain.

Sexual Revolution

The sexual revolution, also known as a time of sexual liberation, was a social movement that challenged the traditional codes of behaviour related to sexuality and intimate relationships throughout the USA and later on, the wider world. It lasted from 1960 to the 1980’s and included the increased acceptance of sex outside the traditional monogamous relationships, mainly marriage. This was followed by the normalisation premarital sex, contraception, homosexuality, masturbation and the legalisation of abortion.
